The Rocky Mountain Chapter held a joint workshop with the National Park Service’s Vanishing Treasures Program on Friday, September 15, 2017. The program started with a classroom session at the US Forest Service office in Boulder, Colorado where wood scientist, Ron Anthony, presented information regarding typical wood behavior in buildings, log deterioration mechanisms, and means of assessment and repair. The afternoon session included time at the Lucky G Cabin near Nederland, Colorado. Under the direction of craftsman Timothy Green, participants were able to complete hands-on activities such as log peeling and scribing. In addition, under the direction of Ron Anthony, program participants completed hands on assessment work including use of a resistance drill, sounding logs, and visual assessment.
